Firefox remains top browser in Armenia, Chrome catches up with IE

Firefox remains the top browser in Armenia,  StatCounter.com data for Aug 09 to Aug 10
With 43.34% market-share, Firefox has remained the top browser in Armenia this year, while Google Chrome displayed impressive growth rates reaching 19.82% and threatening to overtake Microsoft's Internet Explorer, which is currently second with a modest 23.35%.

Firefox 3.6, Chrome 5.0 top browsers in Armenia
At a closer look to StatCounter.com data for August 2009 to August 2010, we can see, that in fact Google Chrome's version 5.0 has surpassed any single version of Internet Explorer and is second only to Firefox 3.6 by popularity.

These figures are very interesting, because Internet Explorer remains the most used browser worldwide with a solid 51.34%, followed by Firefox with 31.09%, while Chrome barely crosses the 10% mark.

Interestingly, the share of Opera is also quite high with 11.88% market-share in Armenia, while globally it only captures 1.88% of the user-base.

These figures lead me to the following cheerful conclusion - Armenian internet users are quite tech-savvy and security-aware when it comes to their browser choice. It is no secret, that the greatest weakness of Internet Explorer is its vulnerability to virus attacks, even if the latest versions have significantly enhanced security features. As to the trends, I can see Firefox and Chrome maintaining a high pace of growth at the expense of Internet Explorer, unless Internet Explorer 9, which is now available for beta download, comes out as a smashing success. Guess we'll just have to wait a little longer and see.
